3D game design is quicker than 2D, especially in terms of animation. I've also decided that a 3D world will lend itself much more to immersive/ambisonic audio, allowing the players to feel truly within the folk sessions/situations.
Toon Shading a Cittern
Here i modified a toonshader I designed in Touchdesigner using GLSL. It takes the normals and 'convolves' them to create edges, and then mixes those edges with noise, a texture and some other maths to create a toony rough outline effect.
I think the normals on the mesh are slightly wrong so it didn't work that well, but its close!
